chromedome Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Sorry guys, I'm a traitor. :) Just purchased another Galaxy. Gone from 2.3 Petrol Auto to TDI 130PS Manual. I have had no problems with my last two petrol Galaxy's but now is the time to give diesel a try. I'll probably join the saga of the aux heater............................... Quote
marty16610 Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 So we will be hearing a lot from u now then. Welcome to the diesel club. :) Quote
bigdaddy Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Nope dont think your a traitor for buying a diesel,,,,,,your money do what you want,,,,,,,,good luck to you Quote
chromedome Posted October 21, 2005 Author Report Posted October 21, 2005 Picked the new Gal up to day. Certainly different, but what was really weird was filling up with diesel. Never had a diesel vehicle before so my actions were very deliberate. I don't know what the girl thought in the booth. Probably thought what's that diry old man up to  Waiting for the trip computer to settle to see what I'm averaging to the gallon. Anyone know what I should expect to get? Thanks. Quote
Mauser Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Nice Chrome,Really wish I had looked into petrol usage a bit more before getting a 2.3 auto lol.I think you should get between 40 and 50 to the gallon which would be great news. Filling up would should be a rare occasion .Happy motoringSimon Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 My trip to work is 4 miles and I rarely do more!!I normally reset memory bank 2 on each fill of the tank and it registers near to 40 mpg ech time.On a run keep it to 65/70 and you will get 45mpg, push it to 80/85 and it drops alarmingly.Regards.Oggy. GSMGuy Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 @ Chromedome - Hope you remembered to remove the HID's!!! I get about 30 mpg average from mine, but I do drive it hard, and all in town... If I do a long trip, I set the cruise to about 85 (3000rpm) and average mid to high 40's Mike Quote
chromedome Posted October 23, 2005 Author Report Posted October 23, 2005 Thanks for all your comments guys. There are quite a few subtle changes been done over the years but I'm slowly getting used to it. Yes GSMGuy I remembered to remove the HID's, just got to get around to refitting them. Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 ...Has anyone else noticed that the ONLY thing that TDi owners are interested in is fuel usage... :D Try and keep one eye out for other traffic whilst watching your MFA and gloating about all the munny you're saving! How do you guys spend all that luvverly hypothetical (bet you end up giving it all to the Missus anyway!) wonga:Another pipe for the collection? A new 4-4-2 loco in authentic colours? More slippers? Collecting quotes for more money saving schemes (loft insulation, double glazing, solar water heating)? Pants (scratch 'n' sniff)? Be careful Chromedome you are entering a cultural dead end filled with sock 'n' sandal wearing chaps trying to repair with airfix glue and tinfoil the broken MAF's that they put back in their sheds.   People driving diesels either bought them or they were given them, you can tell the difference because one is doing 65 in the middle lane shaking his head sadly at the other one overtaking him at 95. You'll know when it's too late because in a moment of clarity and honesty you'll be overcome with guilt and buy the first round instead of scarpering to the bog like usual! Quote
Masked Marauder Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 I bought my TDi, I was not given it. It is in the outside lane when I am overtaking. The speed it is travelling at is appropriate to the circumstances. I own neither pipe or slippers. I don't have room in my shed for an old MAF, it is too full of Astra GTE bits, that's a car that weighs about half a tonne when stripped out. I have two, one is 160bhp, the other is 196 bhp. So that is 392BHP/Tonne, what's your V6 Galaxy got? I save my racing for the track, I don't feel the need for a high powered road car, although the V6 could not really be described as high-powered, after all a Galaxy weighs about a tonne and three quarters in road trim. That and the drag of your fuel bowser trailer..... Some one once told me the only thing that V6 drivers look at in town is their own reflection in the shop windows to make sure they look good. After all a V6 Galaxy is a real fanny magnet compared to a TDi......... Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005    Glad to see your SOH is back MM... Quote
Davetheref Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 I somtimes drive my TDI in slippers !!Havn't got a pipe yet though.   Quote
Bigjeeze Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 I bought my two TDi's through choice - I don't have slippers or a pipe, Only use airfix glue for sniffin and I lead a fairly normal life. I overtake in any lane that suits and after 250K Plus miles in 6 years have a clean licence, full no claims and still enjoy myself. I have a 1978 BMW R60/7 Boxer twin, a 1963 BSA 250 , I shoot , I am an archer, I use all sorts of toys - (which I fund with the savings from my TDi fuel consumption) . On the other hand - I don't care what anyone else thinks - I can think for myself - I don't need anyone else permission, approbation or approvals. Anyway got to go now the Missus is calling me to do the washing up. Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Well if nothing else its good to see that someone is accepting that TDi's save munny  All the best.Oggy. Quote
